First off I am not writing this to bash Brent or anything. He has done an amazing job with this site. I'm more concerned something is wrong with this site.

So for the past few years I have noticed this forum takes a long time to load. Doesn't matter if its to start on website or to log in or to go to a particular section or to go to a topic. I have Fios 500/500 and i check the internet speed and its always over 500 on both so I know its not on my end. So I have noting to do today so I figured I would time how long it takes to load the start up, to click on GENERAL DISCUSSION and then to the first topic. Did this on my home computer and my phone.

First was my computer. Clicked on site (did this twice) took 0.45.12 and .45.67 seconds to load. General Discussion took 0.22.76 seconds to load. 1st topic took 0.21.86 seconds to load. Second test was with my phone. same order of test. Took 0.23.26 to open, General Discussion 0.26.02 and 1st topic 0.23.17 to open. Now compare this to say opening Summit on home computer and it took 0.00.66 to open. I never go to the Yellow Bullet forum but i did for this test and it took 00.00.80 to open it on home computer.

A few years ago I brought this to Brent's attention this forum says its NOT A SECURE SITE. I think it was right after he had done some maintenance to the site. I know he is busy with his work and family so I never bothered him after I originally brought it up. I only bring it up again because for (1) it still says on my computer and phone that the site is not secure. (2) it just takes so long to navigate here. I run UBUNTU - Linx for home operating system and that's probably why the first load up is twice as long on computer vs phone cause UBUNTU firewall is probably seeing the site is not secure. Does anyone else have these latency issues here?

Pictures are what my PC and phone say. This is the only site I have ever seen this on with either my devises.

21 seconds on my home internet connection for a response. I just did a speed check and I am getting 132 Mbps download speeds. Most likely the server which is hosting this website has a slow IP connection.

I've noticed it as well, plus the fact the site is not secure.
I have always chalked it up to whatever level of service Brent is paying for. If we're honest, the cost vs reward (number of customers his business acquires because of this site), is probably horribly biased towards the cost side of things. A lot of folks would have probably shuttered this place before now due to the cost of keeping it going. I may be way wrong, I tend to do that a lot lately, but that's just the way I see it.

Ya I was thinking the same thing too. Thats why I was saying I am not bashing Brent or anything and I am very grateful he keeps the forum going. I thought I would bring it up just in case it was something for Brent to look into in case there is an actual problem. I remember it use to go much faster a few years ago then I remember for a day or 2 the forum was down for maintenance. After that was when I saw it was not secure and was slow. That was my purpose of this thread, to make sure there wasn't something wrong and to see if I was the only one experiencing this.

The problem is most likely at GoDaddy where the site is hosted. It could also be the way they are routing the "unsecure" traffic. "Secure" means the site has a traceable certificate to a known authority and allows everyone to connect to the site with https secure connections. I moved all my hosted sites from GoDaddy to HostGator and HostGator provides a basic certificate - for free - which secure all the sites I'm hosting. GoDaddy hosting with a certificate is expensive - why I dumped them and moved. They might be slowing the traffic in an exercise to try and force people to buy their certs. Also, other sites are going to be blocking traffic from unsecure hosts. I had hosted pictures/web info that was starting to disappear off other sites. Once secured, all came back to life.

GoDaddy does OK for securing domain names, but that also is getting expensive.

BTW - we have 1G of fiber feed at the house and right now I have 721m down and 939m up. This site and the FE Forum are both laggy. Not so much on AT&T via smartphone, probably because AT&T is a Tier 1 big dog provider with preferential traffic.

Same here. It is a lot slower. I even rebooted my computer thinking it was on my end. This is a great site and I have learned a lot plus having so many experienced mechanics plus amateurs to help you. I wished we could speed it up.

One bad thing I have noticed is how members here hardly posted last year. I'm sure it has alot to do with it takes so long to log on and post something - just a stab in the dark.
