Same rules as the Price is Right showcase showdown. Closest without going over.

Well, final numbers are 615 hp @ 8000 rpm, with 468 lb-ft @ 5700.

Looks like Dragboss got the closest, right? Gary would have actually won, but he went over..... :(

Y'all look back at all the entries and make sure that I didn't miss anyone.

Ok, so here's the story behind trying two different cams:

I had a custom cam grinder email me a few months ago and told me that he wanted my custom cam business. He followed up by asking if there was an engine that I needed a cam for, and I told him about my 351C project. I gave him all the pertinent information INCLUDING the cam specs for the cam that I had already spec'd for the engine.

He sent me a cam and told me that if I didn't like the horsepower, I could send it back. I asked him how much hp he thought his cam would make over mine, and his response was, "It should make at least 30 hp more."

Long story short, his camshaft made 587 hp @ 7800 this morning before lunch. We went to lunch and let the engine cool down, and then I swapped over to mine. There was a 30 hp difference, but it was the other direction. :)

So, this engine is for sale, which is what I was kinda planning on doing after I got started. R&D and dyno racing is worth a lot of time and money and gives a great amount of data. I did find out that the Procomp 2-piece timing cover has a junky timing cover seal, which I will have to replace. I also found out that Milodon doesn't make oil pans like they used to.....the finish is coming off of this one.

I will sell this engine for $7500 and will put a factory timing cover and another oil pan on it for the buyer. With a 12:1 compression ratio, it at least needs a race gas/pump gas mix, or even E85. The Dominator carb would just need a power valve put in it to make it run good on the street. Would make an AWESOME bracket engine......615 hp @ 8000!!!

Great Job Brent.
It made 615 and my educated guess was 617. 2 HP off.
I didn't win the prize but I was close.
I can't believe some "cam guy" thought he could out do you.
Probably does lot of Chebby stuff.
Would like to see the look on his face when he sees the dyno sheets.

Wow, nice job Brent, good choice on cam. I forgot what I originally guessed, 585-620, cool beans. So I won good guess and experience.
