G,day,
Factory x 2!
In my opinion depends why you are doing it.
If you just want to make hp and run fast, get a good block, heaps of cam, comp, yates heads etc and go for it.
But I reckon there is a real personal challenge to getting the factory stuff fast and reliable,
have a look at 75 - 80% of the aftermarket stuff out there, you can make more hp/cube with factory gear.
I've got issues but!
Good luck!
Cheers

Paul, at this point, it's just a learning tool. I like seeing differences in parts, it helps me gain data for customer builds.

Maybe I'll have the heads and intake ported, dyno again, sell the top end, and try some aftermarket stuff to see what the difference is.

And no, you don't have issues....

G,day Brent,
Yes that's pretty awesome, definitely a good learning tool for sure.
No one learns by doing the same thing all the time or by doing something just because everyone does that.
you never stop learning, when I think I have a handle on something I sometimes find a problem or another way of looking at it and realize I know very little!
Cheers

I like the idea of a test with ported heads, selling the top end, then bolting on some CHI heads and seeing what the real difference is.
You can find plenty of guys that went from stock heads to CHI heads and a completely different build and see what their results were.

Alright, so I ended up trading my Strip Dominator for a D1ZX-9425-FA intake. I made up my mind that this was the look I'm actually going for.

Not a Boss 351 intake, but an OTC Ford intake. Has a Dominator flange on it.

Jay Brown's latest tests on a 700 hp FE with his intake adapter, showed that the Strip Dominator with a 2" HVH 4150/4500 adapter and an 1150 Dominator made 721 hp. This D1ZX intake made 713.

I'd take an 8 hp cut just for the nostalgia part of it. :)

Just as an FYI, the Weiand Tunnel Ram made 723 hp and the Scorpion made 722. The Scorpion had the HVH adapter and the same 1150 Dominator.
