I know this can be a broad question but I have a 72 Cleveland block thats currently at .030 over and never had a sonic check can .040 over be safe with a street driven build with a 6500 rpm limit also can less than 40 over be done if new pistons are needed ?

Haha, you already know the answer....

Only safe way of knowing is to sonic it.

However, even if it cleans up at 4.035", I can get custom Racetecs for it at a very reasonable price. I can get them in *any* bore size, even odd numbers.

Yes. It's been working fine at 4.030 so you're only going to get .005 thinner. If it has been run quite a bit 4.030 you'll probably end up having to go to something like 4.038 to clean it up anyway so you might as well go to 4.040.

My original 70 block is .060 over. I replaced it with the current .040 engine. .060 ran great on the street and the track. Only problem was heat control. I never had enough radiator/fan for it. With the cooling system set up I have now it would not have been an issue. By the way, the .060 over has Badger cast pistons, always shifted at 6400 and was never sonic checked. Just sent it. It is still alive just dont have anything to put it in.
