LOL - 180 miles to Fort Worth or Lubbock, 250 miles to Austin, 400 miles to Houston. There are two shops here, one man operations and cost is high due to many factors. Both do excellent work. You also can't fly commercial from here to anywhere but DFW. I'll bet other people's water/sewer/trash combo bill doesn't run $120 a month, but it does here. It's just how it is.

I finally found my pictures of my Trick Flow 225cc heads. Now these are not strait from TF , I ordered them from Total Engine Airflow. When I ordered them I told them they were going on a 408 Cleveland. Well they really were but I ran out of money for the stroker kit so it went 359. I told them I wanted all the power in by 6500 with the 408 so they machined these different than the TF. Brent, maybe if you have some new CHI 225 heads laying around, you can post some comparison pics just to see the difference- that would be cool :D I wish the pics were better but the phone I had at that time sucked

(I meant to post this yesterday, then found it still sitting in a preview state on my computer this morning)

Brent is probably correct on the overall price of machining stock cast iron heads. Here is what the machine work was quoted for my 351C 4V Quench heads:
Machine for Screw-In Studs Both heads $225.00
Machine/Install hardened seats Both heads $80.00
3-angle valve machining/assembly Both heads $399.00

After that, I put together a set of costs for all the parts (valves, spring, retainers, etc.), and in most cases, I picked the most expensive, just to give me a "high-end" price.

I had also wondered about using a set of complete heads "out-of-the-box" versus if they'd really be set up for my cam. Brent has pretty much said it's a good idea not rely on how they come but instead make sure they are built with the right parts for the overall build.

I will keep that in mind.
