In the what could go wrong category..
Change the oil and rev it up to ck presser....
Motor stalls hard?

Drops no. 3 intake valve....This blows out the intake bowl filling the motor with antifreeze.
piston not real happy..Head trash. bore looks good..

In the name of racing I pull the chi 4v heads off my car for the week end. (Right)
replace piston. and all the work that go's with it for a 6.00 o clock leave time in the morning..

How could it go wrong????

In a blaze of assholes and elbows in a room filled with cigarette and weed smoke and 100 empty beer cans...
The HIGHly trained team of professionals got it done and are on there way with nowhere to go but up.
How did it run after all that work???
Really Don't know............... I went home.

I just hope they don't destroy my heads.....I can get new ones but I just don't really want to do the port work again..

Update later...

How could it go wrong??

After a short phone call I was informed it was finely done and running at 11.00 last night.
With one or two more issues that had to be overcome.. Like running out of beer....

THE TEAM fells it runs and sounds better than it ever has....
At 11.00 things where most likely getting a little fuzzy....

Long over due update...Life gets in the way of living...
The last we saw of the 408c was going up the side of a ski slope NO. 8 connecting rod was found after the snow melted.

Not to give up the team pulled a 351 from under a bench that had been there for apx. 20 years and stuffed it in over night

Story was it had been redone long ago..It ran OK.
Taking time to look at it I find it a 1971 4 bolt block .030 over with oc heads and new valves but no deck work on the block

Crower 270 cam and hyd lifters. The cam gave up at 4000 and the springs at 5000 …..Still better than nothing...

After 3 events this year we understood this motor was not getting it done we could not keep hoping the fast guys would break..
With my 408 down for the summer I pulled the chi 60cc ported heads off it and got out one of my old lunati hyd roller cams(20320711)
out of the back room and installed them using solid rollers on the cam..

I don't know how much power it makes but FAR more than it did.... Pulls hard and revs to 6500 with out fluttering.

Good for 2nd out of 40 trucks this week end... Lost by .001 of a sec.
I did have to inform them that I will want my heads back.

Thinking they my want to look into a little more cam just to be on the safe side of making power.
I have a cam in my 408 that my just do the trick....why let good parts go to waste...………..
