I found this on FB......

A little something that may save someone else a headache one day. Had a 408 with scat crank in car when I bought it. Rear main leaked like hell. I pulled it and built a 383 . It never leaked a drop. Sold it and made plans to build another 408 with crank and rods I had. Took great pains to make sure rear seal was installed correctly . Still leaked like hell. Replaced seal once again using a different brand seal. Still didn’t help. Just pulled trans thinking maybe it’s a plug in back of block. To my surprise it’s the first time I noticed the end of crank isn’t solid. I can see the rods through the hole end end of crank. No wonder I could never get oil leak stopped.

Some steel cranks are gun drilled and are hollow all the way from rear to front. They take a cup plug in the back. Scat usually puts them in there, but I've seen them leave them out before....

I will also admit to having left one or two out in my day..........................................................
