It looks like I will need to run a .027 or .030 head gasket to get the quench to .040. I know I have read to shoot for .040 quench on the 351C. What special requirements are needed for these gaskets? Has anyone run these on a street application? I appreciate your input in advance, thanks.

A .040" quench distance is a good number to shoot for with any engine.

Both the block and heads have to have the correct surface finish for the Cometics, or any steel layer gasket. I run them on street engines all the time.

If you get in a bind with surface finishes, a .050" quench isn't horrible and will work.

The Cometics are pretty forgiving and versatile as long as you have a smooth enough surface. You can even stack them or use them along with a copper gasket to get weird stuff to work.
